7 Simple Superfoods to Help You Lose Weight

The word ‘superfood’ often conjures up images of colorful berries and other products that we’d be hard-pressed to find at the supermarket.

But in actual fact, there are lots of superfoods that are easily accessible, and you may even have some of these items in your food cupboard already.

What’s more, these foods don’t just have superior nutritional benefits, they are also known to play a role in weight-loss too.

So if you’re looking to shed a few pounds and boost your nutrient intake then look no further because here are seven simple superfoods that will aid your weight-loss.

1. Oatmeal

This age-old staple can be found in most people’s pantries. It can be eaten hot or cold and is packed full of nutrients like protein, minerals, antioxidants, and the healthy sugar beta-glucan which facilitates weight-loss.

Why not eat a bowl of oatmeal for breakfast or a snack? It should keep the hunger pangs at bay while reducing your cholesterol levels and increasing the good bacteria in your gut.

2. Dark Chocolate

Contrary to what a lot of people think, not all chocolate is bad for you.  The active ingredient in dark chocolate is cocoa and this is high in monounsaturated fatty acids. And it’s these good fats that help to break down bad fats in the body.

One study found that dark chocolate was particularly good for reducing belly fat, but just be sure not to overindulge. One or two squares after dinner are all that’s needed to reap the rewards of this tasty treat.

3. Melon

Who doesn’t like a slice of this refreshing fruit on a hot day or any day for that matter? The high-water content in this fruit will quench your thirst and fill you up.

It also contains a powerful antioxidant called lycopene that maintains heart health, reduces the risk of developing certain cancers while helping with weight reduction.

4. Olive Oil

This Mediterranean staple is a great tool to trim belly fat and improve your heart health, but some people are reluctant to use it because of the calorie content.

If you have this concern, then don’t be put off because studies show that olive oil plays an active role in the reduction of belly fat. It works by specifically targeting and shrinking the fat cells in the abdomen.

Erin Palinski Wade, author of Belly Fat Diet for Dummies shows readers how to shed pounds quickly with her diet plan which includes olive oil recipes.

Olive oil is also good for your heart because it diminishes the levels of bad cholesterol and raises the levels of good cholesterol in the body.

 5. Apples

It turns out, an apple a day might do more than keep the doctor away; it could help you to get trim.

This common fruit is high in flavonoids which are believed to play a role in burning fat.

A study carried out over fourteen years found that women whose diets contained the most flavonoids were less likely to gain weight.

In addition to keeping those pounds at bay, apples are also more effective at waking you up in the morning than coffee. This is because apples release vitamins slowly which makes you feel awake for longer.

6. Almonds

Almonds are a great snack to have when you’re feeling hungry because they are a good source of protein and contain fat-busting properties. Eat a handful of these a day to aid your weight loss.

What’s more, these nuts also contain omega-3 which is associated with good heart health and mental health. One study found that EPA, a type of omega-3 fatty acid is as effective as taking an antidepressant.

7. Ginger

There are many benefits associated with eating this spice. It has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, and it can also alleviate nausea and reduce your stress levels.

Stress can cause weight gain because the stress hormone cortisol stimulates food cravings. But by adding ginger to your meal plan or brewing some ginger tea you can curb your cravings and stick to your diet plan.
